well, i think it's safe to say that today has been the most challenging day of the trip. i think it really hit me today that i am actually going to be here for 6 weeks...and I definitely got a little homesick. an email from my mom last night i think is what set it off cause she asked the kids what they wanted to say to me and typed up a dialogue of word for word what each of them said to me...i teared up a little haha and realized that it's actually gonna be 5 more weeks till i get to see them.
today started with an early morning to school that I really didn't want to wake up for! i think i have a cold... i'm just really congested and i had a horrible headache. it was quite the struggle in class today for 4 hours...we were all pretty miserable cause i think we're all getting sick. we had to take a "swine flu test" today. which was really just a sheet of paper that the teacher told us to go down the list and check no to everything...dumb. they are such drama queens about the swine flu here! then after class, we took the bus home...which took about an hour and a half. ha i think thats when i really was wishing that i was in Texas...the bus was PACKED with people...i barely had to hang on to anything because all the people around me were keepping me standing up straight. then we got off to get onto our second bus....that didn't come for about 30 minutes haha..we watched our bus drive by and waved it down but the busdriver shook his head at us cause they were full ha. then we proceeded to watch 5 more of the buses we were supposed to get on drive by....going the other direction. we looked like helpless little children because all 3 of us were starving, didn't feel good and just wanted to go home and take a nap.
well, we finally got on the second bus which was packed, but he still let us on! It was so packed that the bus driver couldnt even shut the door, but he still sped down the road with 2 people hanging by a pole out the side of the door. Brett and Rue and i were all staring at eachother like 'this place is out of its mind!!!!!'...i was like cracking up watching the little old lady hold on for dear life. the people in Argentina drive like PSYCHOS! Brett actually got out his dictionary to look up what the word 'pare' meant (the word on the red octogan-shaped sign) because no one was stopping at it. haha one of my teachers told me that if you stop at a stop sign, you'll get rear ended. everytime we get in the car we are like gripping the door and closing our eyes...kinda like riding with sarah turnipseede.
then we went to tango from 5-7 which was the highlight of my day.
that's a video of the 'folklore' dance...which we learned today. we all hated it compared to the tango. but we learned new steps to the tango after which were aaaawesome!! haha
so, last night we had homework in tango and were supposed to write in spanish....so Brett, Rue and I just wikipedia-ed all the answers last night then copy pasted it into freetranslation.com
soooo of COURSE he calls on me to get in front of the whole class and read the homework...it was hilarious, i seriously couldnt stop laughing for like 2 minutes straight because it was SO WRONG. the teacher had fun making fun of me
well, sorry to be debby downer on this post! i think i just got hit with reality haha..but I'm sure that I'm gonna learn and grow alot through the next 5 weeks which will be good for me!

hahaha thanks for the shout out! next time you're homesick just jump in the car with a psycho driver and pretend it's me... i'm sure the person will start screaming, which along with the driving is pretty much me to a T hahaa
ReplyDelete:( don't be sad, little sissy! 5 weeks is a mucho mucho short time. it'll be over before you know it, and then you'll be sad that you are surrounded by lots of little urchins and not in mendoza. a hug would be nice, though.
ReplyDeletei love you so much!!
